Tennessee Rose is a showhorse. She has seldom, if at all, been ridden outside the show ring. If she never sees the show ring again, that's fine with us. We'd rather introduce her to the mountainous trails of the Arkansas back woods to see if she would enjoy being a trail horse.

We are happy to have her in the family. As her health improves we will update the photos. We have been in contact with the inventor of Thrive horse feed, and we will be receiving our first shipment soon. We are convinced it is what our rescues need.

Update on Thrive, it works! In two weeks Rose put on fifty pounds, while sharing the feed with another of several horses, all of which also gained weight. Her right front hoof is growing, and although we'll have no way of knowing how well the therapeutic shoe would have worked, she seems to be improving daily. She had a severe limp when we unloaded her off the trailer the day we brought her home. I imagine that's partly due to the four-hour drive. On level ground, not that we have much of it around here, her limp is barely noticeable. She still favors her hoof going up and down hill, but less and less each day.

Rose may be appearing in the Hearts4Horses 2010 Calendar! Congrats to Tennessee Rose!

Better yet, she is completely sound in all four hooves. She runs and plays with all the other horses and we cannot tell that she's ever been lame. Cheers to Rose!

By the way....if you've never used Vetericyn, you are missing out on a wonderful wound care product. We used it on all our horses, inculding Rose.

Before and After
The inset photo was taken on the day we brought Rose home. The back photo was taken December 15th, 2009. Although dreary winter weather prohibited a clear photo, it is easy to see that her hip bones and ribs have been covered in muscle and fat. Thanks to Thrive and plenty of forage, (and TLC) she's doing much better.

Adoption fee: Due to her age, Rose will probably stay with us for the rest of her life.

If you wish to help us save horses and be a part of our cause, you may...

...or you can come pick out a horse and take it home, or, if you love horses and want to have one, but have no place to keep one, you may sponsor one.  We have nine equine, four of which are prospects for adoption (placement). Several of our horses would be excellent choices for Fostering.

Note: We are willing to work with anyone who wishes to adopt a horse. Sponsorships can be considered monthly payments on adoption fees.

...and remember, it's all about the horses.
