As can be seen in his photos below, Merlin has come a long way in the last five years. From skin and bones to fat and sassy, he now goes around thinking he is all that, and sometimes he tries to convince everyone he is all that, but to us he is just our cute little mascot, Merly Man. He's the little horse who thinks he can be big...and he's as ornery as a horse can get.
For those of you who have never experienced an American Miniature, if they are stallions, unless you intend to breed them, and unless you can deal with their attitudes, geld them! Miniature stallions can become very mean and dangerous.|
Six months after we rescued Merlin, I tried to pet him through a gate. He nearly tore my arm off at the wrist. Needless to say, he doesn't have those problems anymore, but his gelding didn't cure his insatiable appetite for trouble. And his appetite is what gets him in trouble. He doesn't know when he has had enough to eat. We think that comes from his being small and having to to fight the others for forage between feedings. He's fine unless it's feeding time, and then he's out to get all he can get, and he isn't afaid of any horse we have, no matter how big.
Hey, we love the little guy, don't get us wrong, but we should have named him Dennis the Menace.

Adoption fee: Merlin is our first rescue, and he is our Mascot. Unless someone has another mini or two to keep him company, and wants to provide a new home for him, he'll remain with us.
If you wish to help us save horses and be a part of our cause, you may...
...or you can come pick out a horse and take it home, or, if you love horses and want to have one, but have no place to keep one, you may sponsor one. We have nine equine, four of which are prospects for adoption (placement). Several of our horses would be excellent choices for Fostering.
