Ghost is prime conditionGhost is an Arabian gelding, 7 years of age, who craves attention. He looks remarkably similar to a photo we have of a purebred Arabian, but we are only guessing at his breeding.

He is an extremely intelligent creature, and has a lot of "personality." If he thinks he's being ignored, or that another rescued horse is getting more TLC than he is, his demeanor will show it. He will stand by himself out in the pasture where he will pout and act offended. On the other hand, if you pet him first, he will be just fine.

Considering his history, we cannot blame him for being moody. We were told he spent the first five years of his life in a 10' X 10' stall. He was a stallion at the time and his owner was so afraid of him, that he fed Ghost over the fence. We can only guess at the abuse he suffered. He used to bolt just at the site of an instruction stick. By the way, we don't use whips here, although I've been known to use a quip now and then.

Ghost before rescueWhen we took over Ghost's care his hooves were very long in the toe and his heels had grown forward about an inch and a half from normal, and he limped on the left front. I've kept him trimmed and have gradually brought his hooves back to a proper length, and his heels have receded back to normal. His limp has lessened remarkably, yet it's still there, so we are very cognizant of how he feels, and we don't ride him. This photo was taken in October of 2008.

Adoption fee: due to lameness, Ghost will remain with 2nd Chance for the remainder of his life, unless someone can provide a better place for him. Ghost is a loner; he's lame, and thus he's at the bottom of the pecking order. Perhaps you have room for him at your place. He would make someone a great pasture "pet," but his lameness rules out any riding...that is, if you can tear him away from Carol. Good Luck!

Note: We are willing to work with anyone who wishes to adopt a horse. Sponsorships can be considered monthly payments on adoption fees.

If you wish to help us save horses and be a part of our cause, you may...

...or you can come pick out a horse and take it home, or, if you love horses and want to have one, but have no place to keep one, you may sponsor one.  We have nine equine, four of which are prospects for adoption (placement). Several of our horses would be excellent choices for Fostering.
